Google Doodle Carries A Tune, Celebrates Claude Debussy’s 151th Birthday

Image
Today’s Google Doodle is special. The musical doodle highlights French musician Claude Debussy’s famous composition ‘Claire de lune’. The romantic composition with Debussy’s music is one of the best Doodles  created by Google in recent times. The animated Doodle paints a quaint river-side scene in the moonlight with the act progressing through cities and finally culminating in a tender, romantic moment. Debussy’s Claire de lune tune plays in the background as the scene is progressing. Lights in the houses and street-lights flicker on and off in the doodle giving an illusion of a passing night. The clouds move around playing with the full moon.  The river-side is lined by a road and as ships pass the river, there are cyclists and motor-men moving on the road. The scene incorporates elements like smoke rising from chimneys and flickering lights to match the strings of the piano. The ships finally give way to two people rowing boats. As they near each other, it begins to rain. While the

No substitute to hard work

Few would doubt Thomas Edison's talent as an inventor, yet he's known to have said, "Genius is 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration". There is no reason to doubt Wipro scion Rishad Premji's assertion that hard work matters more than smartness or talent. The world of business is full of success stories that bolster his argument. A clerk in a trading firm in Aden went on to become Dhirubhai Ambani. From the ashes of World War II Japan, Akio Morita built Sony. And from Steve Jobs to Mark Zuckerberg, the IT industry is full of examples of those who had nothing more than a vision but went on to change the world. Sure, these people were talented. But it's one thing to come up with ideas, quite another to make them happen. Hard work is the critical input that separates the great from the ordinary. This couldn't be any truer in the world of sport. In cricket Sachin Tendulkar, hailed as arguably the greatest batsman of all times, is a study in hard work. Known for p

Pedal Power Engineering

Image
Pedal Power Engineering (PPE) is a small engineering firm that designs and builds human-powered devices. We focus on stationary pedal-powered machines called dynapods. Our first dynapod (shown in the video above) will be available for purchase in the fall of 2011. We also build custom machines.  Our dynapod is designed for off-grid applications and features a work surface, ergonomic seat for comfort, quick adjustments for different riders, a flywheel to smooth pedaling, a wide range of gearing, and an all-steel, hand-built frame. An average adult can pedal it to generate 100 watts of electricity, pump 5 gallons of water per minute, grind a variety of grains, operate an air compressor, a hydraulic pump, most any hand-cranked machine, and a variety of small shop tools. It has been found to be particularly suitable for small scale agricultural applications such as cracking grains, churning butter, and pumping water.  PPE is a full service engineering firm committed to conserving

World’s first Android phone

Image
Phones have come a long way since Innocenzo Manzetti played around with the idea of a ”speaking telegraph” in 1844. Development of the landline telephone came in leaps and bounds but it is the mobile phone that truly captured a global audience. The first mobile phones were produced by Bell System for use in cars only, introduced in 1946 on their Mobile Telephone Service in St. Louis, Missouri. The first call on a handheld mobile phone was made on April, 3 1973 by Motorola’s Martin Cooper to his rival, Joel S. Engel of Bell Labs. Nicknamed “the brick” the first mobile phones weighed 2 lb (0,9kg) and cost $3,995.  As with most inventions, it takes a while (and a lot of teething problems) before a product reaches an acceptable cost factor for both the producer and the consumer. Early mobile networks were patchy and phones were expensive, bulky and less than attractive. When the 1G network launched in 1983, the phones were still too big for comfort and suffered from short batte
